Women of the Land
The main idea for this project was to create a zine for Uhambo 8286 centered around women empowerment and the daily lives of women in South Africa.
Research
For my references, I primarily looked into African art that focused on simplifying the human form into silhouettes.
Sketches
In order to encourage higher donations, there will be an option for donors to download the image files featured in the e-zine if they pay a certain amount. While drawing the the sketches I experimented with different methods of stylizing the female figure.
Prints
For the final prints I decided to go for a style that mimicked traditional artwork made with paint and draw the figures with scribbled and swirly with bright colors to create fun, free, and lively images.
Spreads
For the spreads I decide to have the main images but have some elements go off to other pages on the spreads to make the text page and the image pages feel connected. This has the reader be more engaged and encourages them to read through all the pages.
